Post-doctoral researcher positions to work on large-scale image classification using deep learningPosted on April 1, 2015 by Ian

The Australian Centre for Visual Technologies (ACVT) has two vacancies for post-doctoral researchers to work on deep learning with applications to large-scale image classification, such as on the ImageNet dataset. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with the world-class team of researchers on some of the most fundamental, and challenging problems in Computer Vision.
This is an opportunity for a researcher with a background in machine learning methods, in particular, deep learning such as Convolutional Neural Networks, to apply their experience to large-scale problems in image understanding.
Researchers will work with members of the ACVT, including Prof. Anton van den Hengel, and Prof Chunhua Shen, and will join a large, and growing, group of world-class researchers working in this rapidly developing area. This position forms part of the ACVT involvement in the Data 2 Decisions Cooperative Research Centre.
Duration: 2 years initially, but with the option to extend
Start date: as soon as possible (posted April 2015).
Location:
The Australian Centre for Visual Technologies (ACVT), located at the University of Adelaide, is the largest computer vision and machine learning research group in Australia. Based in Adelaide, we currently number over 60 members including academics, research staff and students. We work on a mixture of fundamental and commercially oriented research projects in computer vision and machine learning, and have a strong track record of publication in the top venues. The Data 2 Decisions Cooperative Research Centre is a newly funded initiative focussing on extracting actionable information from large volumes of data. The successful applicants will form part of a team working within the ACVT in this area.
Each successful applicant must have:
- a PhD in a relevant discipline (Computer Vision or Machine Learning)
- solid knowledge on image classification, in particular convolutional neural networks and relevant techniques
- experience in C++, Python and/or Matlab
- a good publication record commensurate with experience
- fluency in written and spoken English
- the ability to work individually and as a member of a broader team
Prior knowledge on GPU CUDA programming is a plus
Salary: University Level B (AU$86,147 – $102,302) depending on qualifications), plus benefits. Some funding for relocation may be available. The ACVT has a generous conference attendance funding scheme for papers accepted to the major conferences.
Please be sure to include in your application a full CV (including a publication list and statement of research expertise and interests) and the names of two referees (including your PhD thesis supervisor).
Please email any queries and/or applications to: Mr Ian Will, Ian.Will@adelaide.edu.au, quoting reference number A02450.
