The research position seeks to push the frontiers in both machine learning methods and formulating real-world problems with machine learning. The position would suit early to mid career researchers interested in extending machine learning methods such as:
- structured prediction models
- inferring graph structure
- prediction on time series and graphs
and using these advances to answer questions related to:
- social media
- recommender systems
- optimising computer systems
- scientific data
in collaboration with domain experts.
The ANU is a highly-ranked research-intensive university (world-wide rankings - QS: 25th, Times: 48th, Shanghai ARWU 66th). The postdoc research fellow will be located at the strong ANU AI research group, with frequent interactions with NICTA Machine Learning group of 20+ researchers on machine learning and data science. Career development opportunities include possible contribution to teaching, the ability to apply for independent grants with the ARC, inter-diciplinary collaborations, or work with government/industry.
The annual salary starts at AUD 81K+ per year, plus benefits.
The research will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Lexing Xie and Dr Cheng Soon Ong, in collaboration with other Australian and New Zealand Universities. Candidates having a solid machine learning and mathematical background, and a willingness to apply machine learning to large, real-world datasets are encouarged to apply.
