报告摘要:With the advances in computing and imaging technologies, particularly the applications of sensing devices such as depth, near-infrared, and 3D, visual multi-modal perception becomes an important way in machine perception. Multi-modal biometrics is becoming an important research direction in multi-modal visual perception, and a number of methods have been proposed in the past few years. However, because of the diversities in biometrics trait and modality, multi-modal biometrics is still suffering from inefficient feature representation, missing modality, and limited data problems. This talk will focus on a few of the above problems, particularly on multi-modal and cross-modality face recognition where the classification model learning is severely constrained due to limited training data. This topic will also cover the topic of cross-modality identification method using soft biometrics.

Dr. Han is an associate professor at the Institute of Computing Technology (ICT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing. He received the B.S. degree from Shandong University, Jinan, and the Ph.D. degree from ICT, CAS in 2005 and 2011, respectively, both in computer science. Before he joined the ICT, CAS faculty as an associate professor in 2015, he has been working as a research associate in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University, East Lansing, and a visiting researcher at Google, Mountain View. His research interests include computer vision, pattern recognition, and image processing, with applications to biometrics, forensics, law enforcement, and security systems. He has published over than 30 peer-reviewed academic papers on top journals and conferences, including five CCF-A journal articles of IEEE T-PAMI and IEEE T-IFS. He has served as the program committee member of top conferences in biometrics and pattern recognition such as ICB, IJCB, ACCV, and CCBR. Dr. Han has been the key member of several NSF and NIJ grants in USA on the topics of 3D face modeling, sketch to mugshot matching, tattoo identification, and face liveness detection. The Sketch-ID system designed by Dr. Han and his colleagues has been licensed to MorphoTrak, one of the world’s leading biometrics companies.
